UFO draining the sun?

Little green men, greys, and other alien ideas seemed to a far stretch to me. Not that I don't believe there is alien life out there in the universe. In fact I think its statistically impossible for there not to be. I just never really bought the idea that they would bother to make their way here to kill cows and ass probe us. Over the years I have scoured  the internet in a vain attempt to find anything that could prove to me, beyond a shadow of a doubt that extraterrestrial life was visiting our universe. I've searched endless "UFO expert" sites, tons of youtube videos, and spent countless hours trying to find a scrap of anything that might give me hope that there is a chance of visitation. Yes I am a self professed geek...but a video I saw tonight may have changed my views for good. I don't pretend to understand what I've seen in these videos. And after digging myself, holy shit! you need to see this for yourself.

This is the original video I watched. As a subscriber to Wowforreeel I've seen many interesting things, some convincing, some not so much. Until this video... the final segment was what caught my eye. Just for a bit of background Wowforreeel, is the host and the name of the channel that covers ufos, strange events, aliens, Nibiru , anomalies, and other strangeness. Very interesting, so subscribe. So this video begins like some of videos do, with some theatrics..hard to exp[lain just watch..take note of final segment.

WTF was that??!! So I dug deeper and found this video...

Ok, adding some credibility..I found the original clip that caught my eye..this is it.

Meh, has to be a photoshoped video or something...I thought the same thing. But on a whim I went to this link:

a NASA site dedicated to observation of the sun. and entered the following dates into the parameters:

March 11, 2012 and March 13, 2012
AIA 171(gold) default one
resolution 1024 x 1024
and left bottom one blank

Lo and behold there it is....

Now I know it won't make a believer out of all of you..but man, it sure is perplexing and worth seeing.

MUTANT BUTTERFLIES!!! MOTHRA!!

=

Mutant Butterflies Something doesn't look right. via Nature
The first serious indications of the ecosystem impact of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan are in, and they’re troubling. Researchers there collected 144 common pale grass blue butterflies from the region a couple of months after the catastrophic nuclear meltdowns leaked radiation into the environment last year. After studying them for a few generations, those researchers are finding signs of genetic mutations that are leading to physical abnormalities.
Those abnormalities include smaller-sized wings, disfigured antennas, strange indentations in the eyes, and shifts in wing color patterns. Initially, only 12 percent of the butterflies sampled showed such mutations. But samples collected six months later showed abnormalities on the rise--28 percent of this second group exhibited abnormalities while 52 percent of their offspring expressed mutations, indicating that the genetic issues arising from the radiation exposure are manifesting themselves further generation after generation.
That’s not good news, though it’s no reason to panic either, the researchers say. Butterflies are good barometers for this kind of thing, because they exist nearly everywhere and their life cycles are relatively rapid, allowing researchers to observe many generations in a short span. But how radiation exposure will affect other species--like livestock, fish, or humans--has yet to be seen. Species’ sensitivities to radiation vary, so there’s no reason to assume these kinds of mutations will apply to humans in the area.
Radiation spilled into the region after the March 2011 9.0-magnitude Tohoku earthquake knocked backup generators offline at a local nuclear power station. The inability to cool those reactors in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake caused meltdowns at three of the station’s reactors.

So....are we going to see Mothra level Tokyo??

Freedom of speech? Not anymore..

BAM! You've Just Been Speech Jammed via arXiv
Want to be the kind of person who causes entire rooms to fall silent when you enter? Researchers from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in Tskuba and Ochanomizu University in Japan have created a speech jamming gun that takes the words right out of speakers’ mouths using a clever trick of psychology.
Psychologists have long known that for whatever reason, it’s very difficult to talk when your words are being immediately repeated to you. Not annoying-younger-sibling repeated to you, but spit back at you just a fraction after you’ve spoken. So by using a simple directional microphone and speaker device, the researchers have created a handheld “speech jammer” that records what a person is saying and repeats it back at them with a two-tenths-of-a-second delay.
In tests, the researchers said the device works well at a distance, rendering the person at the receiving end without causing any physical discomfort (nevermind the mental discomfort caused by suddenly being rendered mute). The only limitation is that it only works with words; meaningless syllables like those often expressed by pirates or onomatopoeia don’t necessarily work.
The researchers see it as a tool to maintain order in meetings or discussion groups where someone is trying to dominate the conversation. But the commercial applications are virtually endless, as there are obvious applications for anyone who ever plans to get into a relationship with another human being ever.

Want to have blue eyes? Now you can.

This week's step forward in conforming to the beauty standard at any cost is a laser that can turn brown eyes into blue ones. The treatment, developed by Stroma Medical's Dr. Gregg Homer, takes only 20 seconds to perform, but is irreversible. Aside from giving you the piercing stare of an Arctic wolf, the procedure could also impair your sight, experts warn. Brown eye pigment helps to prevent problems such as glare and double vision. Removing it could leave the eye with no way to control the light getting in.
Homer assures the BBC that the laser only affects pigment on the eye's surface and that the frequencies used are absorbed by the dark pigment on the iris, so there is no danger of eye damage. After testing on cadavers, he has moved his operation to Mexico, where he says there has been no evidence of injury thus far. His seventeen short-sighted patients have been offered lens transplants in return for taking part in the procedure.
You won't be able to have your eyes burnt blue in America for another three years, due to a longer wait time for regulatory approval. A survey by Stroma Medical suggests that 17 percent of Americans would want the treatment, if they knew it was completely safe. For now, though, we recommend contacts. Kind of a scary concept, imagine if they could do this 70 years ago.....or maybe that's when it was being conceived.....

Alternative to Cremation: Liquefaction!

OR....

A Florida funeral home has debuted a new alternative to cremation, known as the Resomator, that uses heated alkaline water to dissolve bodies in about three hours. Why do we need an alternative to cremation in the first place? Turns out cremation devices use lots of energy, release a fair amount of carbon emissions, and, in the U.K., are responsible for 16% of mercury emissions.
Created by a Glaswegian company, the Resomator submerges bodies in a potassium hydroxide solution in its steel chamber, then pressurizes (to about ten atmospheres) and heats (to over 350 degrees F) the solution for about three hours. After that, the resulting liquid is simply poured into the regular sewage system--it apparently poses no environmental risk and has passed Florida's undoubtedly strict laws for this sort of bio-disposal. Bones remain and are pulverized to ash in the usual way, and any metal bits (including mercury and any prostheses) are retained to be disposed of or recycled in a more responsible way.
Florida is just one of seven states that has legalized the Resomator, but it may catch on in others. The president of Resomation Ltd, the company behind the device, says it emits a third less greenhouse gas and uses a mere seventh of the energy of a cremation device, let alone the benefits of safe extraction of mercury and other metals. The company seems hopeful that its macabre but useful creation will soon receive approval in its native U.K..

Kount Kreepy's Home county hit by Tornado

While myself and family are ok, many people of Goderich, Ontario, Canada, were hit by a tornado today at 4pm. Goderich (population: 8000) is very close to my home town of Clinton; about 15min away..Many of my friends and family live there, so its been a little scary...my brother just recently moved out of town, and its a good thing as his apartment is gone....the level of damage is still to be determined.

IBM Mysteriously Halts Work on the World's Fastest Academic Supercomputer

Since 2007, IBM has been working with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to construct the world’s fastest academic supercomputer. This week we learn that work has been mysteriously halted by IBM, which is taking back the parts it recently delivered to the school, giving U. of Illinois its money back, and ceasing work on the project just months before the massive computer is slated to be completed.
Usually we’d spend the second paragraph telling you why, but in this case we just don’t know. IBM said the supercomputer became more expensive and more complex than the company foresaw. A company spokeswoman said IBM is capable of meeting the technological goals outlined for the project, but nonetheless it is choosing not to.
That’s all a bit odd. The computer, known as Blue Waters, is a building-sized behemoth costing roughly half a billion dollars, much of which was funded by the National Science Foundation. It was based on IBM’s Power7 series chip that is not yet on the market. Which makes one wonder if there was a problem with the chip or with the architecture of the computer itself. Or maybe upon building the first few racks of hardware the computer started to think for itself (with few answers to work with, we’re taking license to speculate here).
But the world’s biggest, baddest academic computer isn’t necessarily lost. The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (you may remember it from our coverage of U. of Illinois’Advanced Visualization Lab earlier this year), which is heading the effort, is seeking other means to finish the computer without IBM. But it only has a few weeks to get another plan in front of the NSF.
Unfortunately, this kind of hardware doesn’t exactly exist in plug-and-play format, so we’ll have to wait and see if some other chip developer can step in and make the NCSA’s new supercomputer as super as it was supposed to be.
