$24,000 Zombie survival kit

$24,000 Zombie Survival Kit

Not since Y2K, has there been any other creature, character, or event (fictional or otherwise) that people have more thoroughly prepared for than geeks have for a zombie apocalypse. Sure, you may have started out just joking around with your friends about how you would go about taking a zombie out. But that has now led to you keeping baseball bats near your bed, and an extra pair of running shoes in your car... juuuuuuust in case. If someone asks you about the sudden appearance of zombie-preparedness paraphernalia floating about your person, you laugh it off, but then look at your friend for suspicious bite marks.
If you think you're obsession with the impending battle between the living and the undead has reached it's peak, think again. If you're really serious about gearing up, put your money where your mouth is. I present you with the Z.E.R.O. (Zombie Extermination, Research and Operations) Kit by OpticsPlanet. This kit, complete with just about every gun accessory you could think of to better your chances against a creature hungry for brains. With its $24,000 dollar price tag, you'd think it would come with actual guns and rifles, or at least some food, but you're on your own in those departments.
"So if I'm spending 24 G's on a survival kit that doesn't come with food or guns, what IS IN that stinkin' kit?" you ask. Well, here's the specs:

DEAD BITE

The 16th annual Fantasia International Film Festival is gearing up to take Montreal by storm with three weeks of inspiration and thrills starting July 19 and running all the way through August 7.
One of the beautiful things about the Thai film industry right now is that it’s functioning a lot like Roger Corman’s classic exploitation studio, AIP: if you’ve got the right actors, a marketing hook, and a high concept, you’ve got a greenlight. While this means that a lot of cruddy movies get made, it also means that the occasional trash classic slips under the wire and hits screens like a big blast of reefer smoke. Such is the case with Dead Bite. Joey Boy is a hiphop star who’s buddies with Will.i.am of the Black-eyed Peas and you can just see him in the pitch meeting forDead Bite: “See, I’m going to get my hiphop crew, the Gancore Club, to play themselves in a zombie movie featuring lots of girls in bikinis. And then they all get killed.” Cue gangsters signing checks and cameras starting to roll.
With no aspirations higher than passing 90 minutes with plenty of babes, blood, and blunts, Dead Bite actually winds up being better than it needs to be thanks to the unrehearsed charisma of the hiphop goofballs in Gancore Club. From the opening scene, in which they’re hired to play a concert for ghosts (an actual Thai tradition) to their telepathic conversations and the way they all try to top each other with their baroque death scenes, these guys are in it to win it. After their supernatural concert goes wrong, their sleazy manager promises them a cakewalk gig: a quick video shoot on a boat jammed with sexy swimsuit-clad ladies. Unfortunately, the boat gets stranded on Mermaid Island, inhabited by insane locals who are led by a forest goddess who loves to butcher tourists just because she can. Then things get worse, because everytime it rains, an army of zombies rise from the surf to treat themselves to a buffet of human flesh.
Contemporary B-movie madness at its most casual, off-the-cuff, and energetic, the slick production values, and enthusiastic gore effects make this movie feel like far more than the sum of its parts. This is a horror movie made by people who love horror movies, full of dope beats, and beaten-to-a-pulp dopes, and it ends with a sick wrap-around gag that feels like the kicker of one whopping, zombie-filled fish story.

Night Breed the Cabal Cut (2012)

watched the original with my family and Mrs. Von Scarry describing it as Buffy the Vampire Slayer with blood. Pretty fitting description but with very imaginative creatures and backgrounder story. Critics back in the day crucified this film and even Clive Barker was not happy about the film. Apparently there is a Cabal version out there (155min) which is more like a directors cut and is coming to a horror fest near you!
This year so far announced screenings are Toronto, Ontario, Canada  N.J. USA, London U.K. and Chicago, Ill USA.
Brian Collins (of Collins Crypt) does a very good review of the "extended cut" here.

Quick summary for the reading challenged- go see it but bring something for your ass. At 155min its long. There is some grumbling about film quality as all the things needed to be done to make it happen involve editing of all damned things VHS, DVD and 35mm. But its a labor of love and a must see for fans-
I have included the official trailer below. -EvS

Juan of the Dead Review

So my Creepy friends, I just watched Juan of the Dead, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. At first glance I thought, "Oh great, a Shawn of the Dead rip-off". But not at all...yes, there are a few similarities, but this movie has a completely different vibe and definitely worth seeing. The humour is a tad darker, and way more down in the gutter. Lol. More sex, and more violence. The FX are solid, with a few obvious CGI tweeks. But hey its meant to be tongue and cheek. The characters are great and hilarious. The only draw back to this movie for some will be subtitles. But if you are like me, and a die hard zomcom fan, you will really like this flick. The constant digs at all the institutions ie Communism, capitalism and other countries is entertaining too. So go out and buy this one, or whatever ya gotta do, but watch it! 4 of 5 bleeding brains!!
