Just finished watching it and had a few things I wanted to get out before I sleep on the rest of it.
First impressions....The Shining meets Lair of the White Worm. It had the feel of a lot of the creepy 1970's horror films which had cults and devil worship with the promise of the devil coming back in human form ( Blood on Satan's Claw, Rosemary's Baby, Hungry Wives,The Pyx,Carrie,Audrey Rose,etc. The surreal and what the fuck of The Wicker Man). Funny how life would be influenced by art, that would play out later in the big whipped up fears of devil cults and heavy metal music of the 1980's (PMRC-Tipper Gore, now her husband tries to scare us about Carbon). The fears of right wing evangelical America .The following song features in the film and is pretty fucking creepy.
A very different movie from Rob Zombie's "Devil's Rejects", which seemed to be just a shocker for the sake of it. I was expecting that watching this but was pleased to see it was not just a bunch of shock and gore for the hell of it. Actually it was pretty artsy and had a bit more depth to it than many of his previous films. I hope it's the start of Rob Zombie coming into his own as a more serious director.

Had some more time to dwell on it after a strange dream about musical scoring and sheet music, lol.
There was quite a bit this film had to offer and some great background,etc but it kind of felt disjointed which I wonder if that was almost deliberate. I figured that maybe getting the low down from the man himself might help. So here's Rob Zombie in an interview about Lords of Salem.
This film was certainly a departure from his previous shock films and was more of a thinking kind of movie with horror as the vehicle for it. Over all it was an enjoyable movie and think that Rob Zombie has branched out trying out a new approach. The criticsbashed it into the ground but to hell with em, this ain't no happy ending feel good film. Also might as well enjoy it as Rob Z claims that this is his last horror movie for at least 10 years. Now something comes to mind like "you take the boy out of the blah blah but not the blah blah out of the bogy. Stay tuned, I give him 3 years tops.

Well, first I have to say is there is a lot going on in this movie.. At first glace you might chalk it up as another "Scream", or teenie horror flick, but that is totally not the case with this movie. Right from the beginning you can see that there is something different about this movie, a kind of "Scott Pilgram vs The World" feel. The basic plot outline provided by IMDB goes like this : As a killer named Cinderhella stalks the student body at the high school in Grizzly Lake, a group of co-eds band together to survive while they're all serving detention.
This description doesn't even scratch the surface of this strange, quirky comedy-horror. With funny 80s and 90s references and a bizarre story twist, I found myself pleasantly surprised and entertained. Throughout the movie I was saying " Wtf, lol "... and felt satisfied with the level of gore and mayham. I wish I could say more about this movie but as a return reader to my blog, you may notice I am a man of few words, and kind of suck at reviewing haha...I would recommend this movie to fans of such films as the fore mentioned and other strange horror flicks like this incomplete list:
After Bart Jansen's cat Orville was killed by a car, the artist had the animal taxidermied and then, "after a period of mourning," converted the stuffed kitty into a radio-controlled quadcopter. The video is below.
It's not clear whether or not Orville always dreamed of being a flying cat, but let's assume that he did, and that this is the ultimate demonstration of Mr. Jansen's respect for his deceased pet. Orville is currently on display in Amsterdam, at the Kunstrai art festival.

Since 2007, IBM has been working with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to construct the world’s fastest academic supercomputer. This week we learn that work has been mysteriously halted by IBM, which is taking back the parts it recently delivered to the school, giving U. of Illinois its money back, and ceasing work on the project just months before the massive computer is slated to be completed.
Usually we’d spend the second paragraph telling you why, but in this case we just don’t know. IBM said the supercomputer became more expensive and more complex than the company foresaw. A company spokeswoman said IBM is capable of meeting the technological goals outlined for the project, but nonetheless it is choosing not to.
That’s all a bit odd. The computer, known as Blue Waters, is a building-sized behemoth costing roughly half a billion dollars, much of which was funded by the National Science Foundation. It was based on IBM’s Power7 series chip that is not yet on the market. Which makes one wonder if there was a problem with the chip or with the architecture of the computer itself. Or maybe upon building the first few racks of hardware the computer started to think for itself (with few answers to work with, we’re taking license to speculate here).
But the world’s biggest, baddest academic computer isn’t necessarily lost. The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (you may remember it from our coverage of U. of Illinois’Advanced Visualization Lab earlier this year), which is heading the effort, is seeking other means to finish the computer without IBM. But it only has a few weeks to get another plan in front of the NSF.
Unfortunately, this kind of hardware doesn’t exactly exist in plug-and-play format, so we’ll have to wait and see if some other chip developer can step in and make the NCSA’s new supercomputer as super as it was supposed to be.
Sam Raimi is gearing up to produce a quasi-remake ofThe Evil Dead, his breakthrough horror film from 1981 that starred Bruce Campbell as "Ash", a modern day warrior who fends of resurrected deadites. Fede Alvarez(Federico Alvarez) is directing for Raimi's Ghost House Pictures and Mandate. The remake was announced way back in 2004.
Owner of this car was fed up with problems and a $20000 estimate to fix newest problem, he did what some of us only wish we could do.....he donated it for a charity shoot at gun range :)
Eight classic monsters fight to the death in a cheesey monster wrestling tournament set inside an abandoned and cursed graveyard. A Canadian spoof horror, filmed in Montreal, featuring names like: Dave Foley, Lance Henriksen, Jimmy Hart (yes, of WWF fame), and Kevin Nash. Should be super craptacular fun!!
