Finished watching Evil Dead the new one 2013. The Kount and I were both pretty pissed off we weren't the first Monster Kids in line for it but family, work,etc sometimes get in the way.
Well worth the watch, now of course not as good as the original (are they ever really?).
But this had the atmosphere that creeps people out and had some nods to the original but
still able to pull it off as it's own dog. Having said that though there's some parts in this new one that I will never forget!
It was pretty fucked up and had some really over the top moments. The effects were very well done
and has plenty for fans of the original. Being a huge fan myself (yeah I even got the t-shirt) of the original I was pleased to be able to pick out some "Easter eggs" from the original but also surprised that the film was able to do it's own ideas as well instead of just being a clone of the original film.
The beginning of the film actually gave something the original did not, some visual backgrounder. The original gave the backgrounder through an audio tape. This one actually SHOWS YOU what happened, which I thought was pretty cool.
Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell ('hail to the King baby!') are producers of this film so for anyone out there who are worried Sam and Bruce weren't going to put up with anyone fucking with this film. And to all those pussies in movie theatres world wide who got up and walked out, what the fuck did you expect from a film entitled EVIL DEAD. LMAO for fuck sakes it's not a fucking Disney film!
To fans of the Evil Dead franchise if you've been holding back, don't. Go and see it. It will be worth your while. Cheers, Evil von Scarry.
I often wonder if the whole "terminator" movie scenario is science fiction turned inevitable reality. Are we doomed, those of us who survive, to run around in a post-apocalyptic world, filled with killer robots? We certainly seem hell bent on getting there. Scientists working under sketchy military subcontractors and other smoke and mirror bodies, are working over time to create all the crazy things we see in sci fi flicks. Are we headed in this direction? I think so... you tell me:
Here is a "dog" robot designed to lug things(so far). Imagine if you will this thing if you will, 5 times the size and armed to the teeth.
It s seem benign enough now..but given the right mods it could be scary as hell.

In a presentation that seems ripped from the Atomic Age, Lockheed Skunkworks says it might be a decade away from producing a power plant based on compact fusion reactors. Unlike current nuclear reactors, all of which use fission, nuclear fusion does not easily produce materials that can be used in nuclear weapons. Fusion reactors also offer better containment, easier shutoff, greater energy efficiency, and less radioactive waste than their fissioning cousins. Of course, with something this promising, there has to be a catch.
Despite the fact that nuclear fusion has been pursued as a power source since the 1950s, fusion reactors have yet to be effectively turned into a regular power source. Tokamaks, the first kind of fusion reactor attempted, generated power by using magnets to squeeze and heat plasma in a giant ring. To make it work, you need a massive donut-shaped vacuum chamber, and it can take years to go from construction to power generation. There has been something of a modern revival of fusion reactor attempts, but most designs still are tremendous undertakings, requiring the kinds of resources and infrastructure that usually only governments can provide. And such coordination efforts are difficult in the best of times and can be an impossible sell during severe financial constraints.
So in part, it's the feasibility of the new Lockheed project that makes it so compelling. Much smaller than traditional fusion attempts, the compact fusion reactor uses a cylinder, not a ring, which makes for a stronger magnetic containment field and leaves fewer points where the energy could escape. This could make for a reactor that's small enough for a truck to transport and still robust enough to generate power for 100,000 homes. Lockheed hopes to have a test model available by 2017, and scale up to regular production by 2022.

The Emotiv brain-computer interface was designed to let users control their computers with their thoughts alone, opening up a new avenue for hands-free computing as well as a potential means for those with disabilities to communicate through machines. So much for good intentions. Scientists at the University of California and the University of Oxford in Geneva have devised a way to steal a user’s sensitive information--account numbers, PIN numbers, etc.--via Emotiv’s off-the-shelf brain signal-reading technology.
The $300 Emotiv device works by sensing electrical signals in the brain and interpreting them as commands for a computer. But the researchers in this case were interested in another application that essentially boils down to mind-reading. Using the Emotiv, could they tap into signals that would reveal sensitive information?
Specifically they were monitoring for the P300 signal in their test subjects, a brain signal that is associated with recognition--a tip-off that a particular word or image is meaningful to the user. The researchers placed their Emotiv-clad subjects in front of monitors displaying a series of random images of banks, numeric keypads, PIN numbers, and various people, looking for P300 signals that showed a flicker of recognition. They found that over time they could reduce the randomness of the imagery and focus in on what the user found relevant. Slowly, they were able to zero in on the images--and numbers, and banks--most relevant to the subjects.
Of course, in order to execute this kind of fraud the user would have to be a willing participant. But should technologies like Emotiv’s interface proliferate, it would be easier and easier to perpetrate such a scheme. An unsuspecting user could be talked into playing “games” that result in their essentially being interrogated, the researchers say. And the information that the interrogators take off with would be nothing shy of the very information stored in a person’s memory.
In news that doesn’t foretell a dystopian future where our very minds are ripe for robbery, the paper in which the researchers published these results also nodded toward a more benign use of these procedures in law enforcement interrogation--not to steal specific thoughts but rather to tell if a suspect is withholding relevant information or lying about an incident much more accurately than today’s lie detectors can.
